Description

Bullpen Strategy Group (BSG) is an insights-focused public affairs advocacy and strategic advisory firm specializing in analysis, communications strategy, and project management to help clients solve problems, grow, and manage risk.

With offices in Washington, D.C., Dallas, and London, BSG’s partners have spent years working at the center of the action where strategy, communications, and research merge. We’ve worked on some of the most high-profile political, corporate, and public policy challenges of the past decade. Today, we bring that same collaborative, all-hands approach to help our U.S. and international clients address challenges with unique, comprehensive, and results-oriented strategies.

We are seeking an Evening Shift Director to join our Media Intelligence practice.

This position leads BSG’s night operations – overseeing associates on shift, driving quality control, and coordinating with day leads on handoffs and escalations – ensuring our client guarantee of round-the-clock monitoring and delivery, including ownership of key deliverables.

The role is remote, Monday to Friday, with core hours of 3 PM to 11 PM Eastern. Our operation is constantly evolving, so these hours and in-person requirements may be subject to change.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate brings newsroom-caliber judgment, composure under pressure, and a deep understanding of the news cycle. They have experience building and leading monitoring programs, mentoring teams, and delivering precise, actionable analysis at speed. The successful Director is a decisive operator and coach; is creative, detail-oriented, self-motivated, highly organized, and resourceful; and demonstrates clear leadership in client management and team mentoring.

At the Director level, BSG focuses on creating client strategies and executing deliverables while managing client expectations, and act as day-to-day liaisons in the client relationship.

  • Be responsible for delivery and quality control of deliverables and overall portfolio coverage during shift.
  • Supervise and develop associates on shift; enforce standards for sourcing, formatting, and style; provide real-time feedback and training.
  • Liaise with account leads; align night coverage to client needs; manage expectations and escalations; contribute to strategy and pitch materials as needed.
  • Maintain rigorous QA across print/online, broadcast, and social posts; ensure on-time sends and accurate lists; uphold compliance with BSG style and sourcing standards.
  • Drive judgment on alert-worthy items and crisis response; ensure reliable, after-hours alerts and rapid turnarounds.
  • Oversee Dashboard categories and user permissions during shift; troubleshoot deliverability; coordinate with day team on trackers, schedules, and coverage gaps.

Required Skills

  • 3–5+ years in media intelligence, newsroom, public affairs, political communications, or related field, including experience managing people or projects.
  • Demonstrated success crafting operational strategies and managing deliverables against client objectives.
  • Expert triage across high-volume environments; ability to separate signal from noise and prioritize under time pressure.
  • Comfortable working across a variety of monitoring and publishing platforms; quick to learn new tools and workflows; able to evaluate and improve team processes regardless of the specific software stack.
  • Strong research abilities and verification discipline; comfort managing complex queries and refining for precision.
  • Clear, concise writing; reliable, proactive Slack/email/phone coordination with internal teams and clients.
  • Obsessive attention to formatting, sourcing, and deliverability; ability to document, standardize, and enforce best practices on the fly.
