Description

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our finance team! The Finance team is responsible for ensuring we are compliant with all business obligations, through planning ahead and enabling the infrastructure needed to support the company’s growth.

The Controller will focus on cash flow management, operational budgeting, and providing strategic support. This will be achieved by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and overseeing financial planning activities including budgeting, forecasting, short and long-term planning, and financial modeling. This individual will utilize their strong accounting experience and dynamic personality to interact with management and business teams on multiple projects to drive performance and support company initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the operation of accounting, including cash, revenue, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
• Maintain all internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program expenditures.
• Develop timely and accurate financial reports in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Monitor and manage organizational cash flow.
• Review, analyze, and determine causes of any inaccuracies in financial records and prepare correcting entries.
• Maintain oversight of banking activities.
• Support in the continuous budgeting process, including coordinating, preparing, and reviewing budget updates.

Requirements

•  5-7 +  years of progressive hands-on experience in accounting/financial roles, with at least 2-3 years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
• Experience in a public affairs, professional services, or similar project-based industry is a plus.
• Master proficiency in MS Excel
• Fluent in QuickBooks Online, Sage ERP, and Bill.com.
• Proven expertise in cost control, forecasting, AR/AP management.
• Strong data analytic skills, high attention to details, with a focus on accuracy.
• Grounded, problem solver, comfortable with ambiguity, complexity, and nuance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
